Every day, countless cats and kittens are abandoned, a heartbreaking reality that has become all too common. Left to survive in dangerous, unforgiving environments, many face insurmountable odds.

Recently, a rescue group in California received a call about two vulnerable kittens found in a Los Angeles landfill, desperately needing help and a chance at life.

The tiny kittens were seen wandering the garbage dump alone, with no sign of their mother.

The rescuers were devastated to hear about the kittens’ harsh living conditions, so they quickly hopped in their car and sped to the scene, hoping to catch the kittens and give them a better life.

When they arrived at the site, a few locals shared what little they knew about the kittens’ situation.

Apparently, the kittens had shown up at the landfill about a week earlier and had been surviving there ever since, scavenging for food and seeking attention from anyone who passed by.

It seemed unlikely that their mother had simply abandoned them.

More likely, someone had heartlessly dumped them at the landfill, not wanting to deal with the responsibility of caring for them at home.

Having faced such cruelty from humans at such a young age, the kittens were incredibly shy and wary. The rescuers understood that catching them would be difficult, but they were determined to help.

By day, the kittens would venture out to explore, but at night, when it grew dark and there was no one to care for them, their cries could be heard, pleading for someone to rescue them.

Worried about their well-being and knowing they couldn’t survive much longer on their own, the rescuers knew they needed to do something as soon as possible.

The rescuers acted quickly, bringing some delicious food to win the kittens over. After eating scraps from the trash, the fresh canned food was enough to make the kittens view the rescuers as allies, not threats.

With just one meal and a few soft head scratches, the kittens were calm enough for the rescuers to scoop them up, place them in a carrier, and rush them to the vet for a much-needed checkup.

After a thorough checkup at the vet, the rescuers were relieved to hear some encouraging news.

Aside from being underfed and dealing with a bit of diarrhea from the spoiled food they ate at the landfill, the kittens were in surprisingly good health.

They didn’t have any infections, fleas, or viruses!

Everyone was overjoyed to hear such positive news! It meant that with the right diet and plenty of care, the kittens could grow into strong and happy cats.

If all goes well, once they’re back on their feet, these kittens will hopefully find their forever homes, ideally together, where they can enjoy the warm Los Angeles sun side by side.
