NY Airport Staff Inspects Suitcase After X-Ray Reveals Odd Shape And Finds Unexpected Traveler
Some cats seem to have a sixth sense for chaos, and Smells, the mischievous ginger from Brooklyn, might just be a master of it.
It was Thanksgiving prep time: suitcases scattered, last-minute packing in full swing, and everyone rushing around. The perfect storm for a curious cat.

Smells didn’t settle for the usual cat antics. No, he had bigger plans.
With a sly little leap, he dove straight into an open suitcase and curled up like he’d just claimed a five-star suite. The timing, the audacity, the sheer confidence, it was classic Smells, turning ordinary holiday madness into a one-cat comedy show.

Not a single person notices. Not one suspicious whisker. This kitty was committed to his getaway plan.
Before anyone realized he was gone, this little stowaway was seconds away from being flown straight to Orlando.
And that’s where our heroes, the Transportation Security Administration, step in.

During a regular security scan at JFK Airport, officers suddenly paused. Something in one suitcase looked… off.
The X-ray showed a little curled-up shape that definitely wasn’t socks, jeans, or someone’s forgotten shampoo bottle.
So they took a closer look and saw the clear outline of a cat curled up inside. Thankfully, they pulled him out right away and saved him from a very unexpected vacation.

After a few hours stuck in that cramped little space, Smells popped out safe, unharmed, and probably wondering why everyone looked so stressed.
Instead of flying to Florida inside a suitcase, he got the real prize: a warm, cozy Thanksgiving back home in Brooklyn. Honestly? He came out way ahead.
The TSA even posted a hilarious tweet with Smells sitting proudly in front of a full Thanksgiving dinner spread, licking his whiskers like the king he is.

Lisa Farbstein, a TSA spokesperson, jokingly wrote:
“Smells, the cat who TSA recently rescued from a checked bag at JFK Airport after he snuck into a suitcase in an attempt to fly to Orlando, enjoyed Thanksgiving at home in Brooklyn. Apparently, Smells was planning to chase after a big mouse he heard was running around Disneyworld.”
And what a meal he got. A plate piled with meat, green beans, mashed potatoes, and yes, even a glass of red wine sitting beside him.
I mean… Smells absolutely did not earn all that pampering, but we can’t blame his family. He’s adorable.

As for that mysterious glass of wine? No one really knows if it was meant for Smells or if he simply decided it looked interesting enough to claim.
Cats keep their secrets close, and he’s definitely the type to act innocent while planning his next “great idea.”
One thing is clear: life with Smells is never boring. This kitty has more adventures than most people.
