Washington Woman Befriends A Wild Crow, Then Gets A Heartbreaking Plea For Help

A casual porch encounter blossomed into a years-long friendship between a woman and a wild crow. But the true depth of their bond was revealed when the bird’s baby suffered a terrible accident.

For most people, a bird landing on the front porch is just a fleeting moment of nature.

But for a woman named Jen, one particular visitor was about to change her daily routine forever.

Three years ago, Jen noticed a wild crow lingering near her home. She didn’t think too much about it at first, assuming the bird was just passing through like so many others in her area.

Still, she decided to offer the thirsty bird a drink from her birdbath and a few small snacks.

A Name And A New Routine

The very next day, a friend came over to visit Jen and pointed out something unusual.

The same crow was just sitting calmly on the porch, watching them.

Jen realized the bird had come back for more interaction. She offered the crow a piece of avocado, which the bird happily gobbled right up.

Delighted by the bird’s bold personality, Jen decided to name her new feathered friend Eleanor.

Earning Eleanor’s Trust

From that day forward, Eleanor started coming to Jen’s door every single morning.

Jen knew she had to be careful not to frighten the wild bird. She made sure to stay very calm and quiet whenever Eleanor was around.

Her patience quickly paid off. While other crows would normally swoop in, grab a nibble of food, and immediately fly off, Eleanor was different.

She wasn’t scared in the slightest. Instead, she chose to stay and follow Jen around throughout the morning.

More Than Just A Passing Bird

As the weeks went by, their routine evolved into something truly special.

When Eleanor visited in the evening, she wouldn’t even ask for food. She would simply sit nearby and keep Jen company.

Jen would look up at the wires and see Eleanor looking right back down at her.

“It makes me feel like we’re actually friends,” Jen noted, marveling at the unique bond they were building.

Jen and Eleanor’s daily visits had become a comforting constant.

But then, suddenly, Eleanor didn’t show up one day.

Jen kept a close eye on her porch, looking outside for her feathered friend every single day.

As the days turned into a prolonged absence, Jen began to grow genuinely worried about what might have happened to the friendly crow.

A Proud Mother’s Return

Just as Jen’s concern was peaking, Eleanor finally reappeared—but she didn’t arrive alone.

The proud crow had brought a tiny companion with her. It was one of her babies, who Jen later named Fernie.

Eleanor would gather the food Jen left out and carefully take it up to the wires to feed her little one.

Jen realized that Eleanor had been away tending to her nest, but she trusted Jen enough to introduce her to her new family.

A Tragic Accident Strikes

The mother and baby visited every day, happily enjoying the meals Jen provided.

But the peaceful routine was shattered when little Fernie suffered a terrible accident.

The baby crow ended up with a totally broken wing and desperately needed help.

Jen gently wrapped Fernie up and tied her securely to keep the injured wing stable. Amazingly, Eleanor just calmly watched the whole thing, somehow knowing that her human friend was helping.

A Lifelong Bond Of Gratitude

Knowing the baby needed professional medical care, Jen contacted a local sanctuary that took Fernie in.

Thanks to the quick intervention, Fernie recovered and now lives at the sanctuary full time.

As for Eleanor, she continues her years-long friendship with Jen. She even brings Jen little gifts, which Jen believes are the mother crow’s way of saying “thank you.”

Looking back on their journey, Jen is amazed by how much has happened since that first porch visit. She never forced the relationship, and in return, she gained a beautiful, unspoken bond.
