Some cats are born adventurers, and no matter how hard you try to keep them indoors, they will always find a way to get what they want.
No one knows this better than Maisie Bray. Not only does her beloved cat named Bean love escaping from his home, but she always has to pick him up from the most unusual places.
Maisie explained that Bean has always had a special personality. She said in an interview:
“He can either be really calm and chilled or a complete lunatic. There’s not really any in between.”
Well, that crazy side of his personality is probably what led him to his adventurous escapades. Bean was an indoor cat most of his life, but Maisie would often take him on walks on a leash.
He enjoyed their long walks, gaining confidence, but, little by little, the walks made him fall in love with exploring different surroundings.
Despite that, he remained an indoor cat until he and Maisie moved houses. Maisie’s life took an unexpected turn, so she moved in with her parents in the countryside.
As soon as they settled in, Bean knew exactly what to do. Realizing that, Maisie tried hard to keep him indoors, but with other outdoor family cats around, that was simply a mission impossible.
Sneaky Bean always found a way to escape and have the best time of his life. That was when his real adventures began.
Soon, everyone in the neighborhood knew about Bean. Whenever someone saw him in an unusual place, they would call Maisie to come pick him up. She explained that she had to pick him up from the strangest places every day:
“He liked to follow people, which is how he ended up so far away, and he’ll jump into any open window. I’ve had to pick him up from a lot of houses, the park, from two different pubs, three different schools, three different shops, and of course when he ended up in Exeter 52 miles away – but he got a taxi home on that occasion.”
However, the most hilarious thing about Bean’s escapades was that he was never thrilled when his human mom came to pick him up. It was as if she was interrupting his adventures. Maisie shared:
“He’s very indifferent when I pick him up. Sometimes he will just jump into my car and other times he will growl and bite me, which is just embarrassing – but he doesn’t do this anymore and just comes home himself now!”
Although Bean is still active when it comes to his escapades, Maisie admits he has calmed down over the years. Nowadays, he often wanders into a few of his favorite places, including a local school and several families he visits regularly.
Maisie has learned to live with that, and now, she’s okay with his little escapades, as long as she knows where he is and that he’s safe.
During years of different escapades, Bean has made a reputation and is now a well-known neighborhood feline, loved not just by his mom but also by lots of people in the community.
