New Hampshire Woman Adopts A ‘Doodle Puppy,’ But Months Later, She Realizes The Huge Surprise

At first, everything about Callie seemed exactly like what Jillian Schrader expected when she adopted a fluffy little puppy from a shelter in New Hampshire.

Soft curls, playful energy, and that classic “doodle” look that’s become so popular with dog owners everywhere.

But as the weeks went by, something started to feel… a little off. Let me tell you all about it.

Jillian adopted Callie thinking she was bringing home a medium-sized doodle mix. Based on her looks alone, it seemed like a safe assumption. In a viral video posted to her TikTok account @jillfacts, Schrader said:

“We suspected she would be like 50 lbs.”

But that estimate didn’t hold up for long.

As Callie got older, she kept getting bigger—and bigger—until it became impossible to ignore what was happening. By just seven months old, the “puppy” was already enormous.

In the video, Schrader picks Callie up and struggles slightly under her weight as she carries her toward the camera, clearly trying to show just how big she had already become, saying:

“This is a puppy.”

At 5’8″, Schrader isn’t small herself, but Callie was already approaching her height in a very real way, and still had more growing to do.

That’s when curiosity turned into certainty, and the family decided to get a DNA test done. The results completely changed everything they thought they knew.

Callie wasn’t a doodle mix at all. She was 100 percent Giant Schnauzer. Schrader said:

“No doodle, no poodle, no little breed. 100 percent giant schnauzer.”

Suddenly, everything made sense.

Giant Schnauzers are powerful working dogs known for their intelligence, loyalty, and strong protective instincts. They can grow up to 27 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 95 pounds, or even more in some cases.

In Callie’s case, her future size was clearly going to far exceed what her owners originally expected.

But instead of disappointment, the revelation mostly brought surprise and humor. Schrader’s video quickly went viral, racking up over a million views as people reacted to the unexpected “glow-up” story.

Many viewers joked that she had actually gotten the better end of the deal, as one person wrote:

“Getting a giant schnauzer instead of a doodle is a MAJOR score.”

Others shared their own experiences with giant schnauzers, warning about just how big they can get, while still praising them as loyal, intelligent companions.

Through it all, Callie kept right on growing, completely unaware of the internet debate happening around her identity.

For Schrader, what started as a simple adoption surprise turned into something much bigger—literally.

And while she may not have brought home the “doodle” she expected, she ended up with something just as special: a giant, loving dog who just happened to rewrite the story entirely.
