Life can be tough, and sometimes people face challenges that force them to make hard choices, like giving up a beloved pet. It’s never an easy decision, but often, it’s done out of love to ensure the pet gets the care it needs.
The staff at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, North Carolina is used to animals being abandoned or surrendered.
So when they discovered two pet carriers left under a tree in their play yard, they approached the situation with kindness and understanding.
Inside the carriers were two cats, and next to them a touching handwritten note that read:
“My name is Baby, my mommy can’t take care of me anymore. Please find me and my sister a new home. Thank you!”
It was clear this was a heartbreaking decision for the owner. The shelter quickly reassured the former owner through a post on Facebook:
“Such a heartbreaking message, written on a cat carrier and left in the shade of our play yard. To the person who left them… They are safe with us, and thank you for trusting us with your cats you so clearly loved; we understand you didn’t have another choice, and we hope you are ok.”
The two bonded sister felines, who have special needs, were placed together at the shelter and given new names: Junebug and Magpie. Thankfully, it wasn’t long before they found a new loving family willing to take them both in.
Many people commented on the owner’s decision praising them for choosing to leave them at the shelter and lamenting the poor cats. While there were still some who judged the owner for leaving them like that, to which the shelter answered:
“They left them in a fenced in area, under a shade structure, right before our staff arrive each day. They did the best they could do.”
I totally agree with them! We can never know what kind of trouble this person might have been in, and therefore we shouldn’t judge. They did the best they could and left the kitties in a place they knew the shelter would find them.
It must have been a hard thing to do, but thanks to the shelter these two kitties got a new chance.
