Will Zweigart is a well-known foster hero from Brooklyn, New York. For years, he’s been tackling the growing issue of stray cats in the city.
Together with his wife, the power duo managed to save and find forever homes for hundreds of stray cats and kittens. However, one stray kitten was about to change their lives forever…
Will noticed a cat colony in desperate need of help. It seemed like most of the kittens in the colony had crusty, severely infected eyes.
But one of the kittens seemed to be in worse shape than the rest of the colony. A gray tabby, not older than three months, had a severe eye infection.
Will knew he had to trap her as soon as possible, but there was a catch. She was extremely wary of people, and every time Will tried to trap her, she managed to run away and hide.
In the meantime, he captured another kitten from the colony and brought him to the vet alongside his sister. That kitten needed emergency eye surgery, and Will knew the adorable gray tabby needed one as well.
Fortunately, Will and his wife managed to capture the kitten just days later. By this time, her eye was in even worse condition, and it seemed like it was about to rupture at any moment.
Will named her Mani and she was submitted for an emergency operation. The vet had to surgically remove her left eye, as it was beyond saving.
Luckily sweet Mani recovered in no time and she started to show off her sweet personality.
She would snuggle up next to Will and his wife, play with the rest of the foster kittens, and learn how to navigate life with only one eye.
Will always made sure to find perfect forever homes for his foster kittens, as that meant that he would have more space to rescue other kitties in need. He managed to find a perfect home for the kitten sibling duo he rescued before Mani.
However, as the couple was rescuing, fostering, and finding homes for other foster kittens it seemed they somehow always ‘forgot’ to put up Mani for adoption.
To be fair, with her adorable face and sweet nature, it would be hard for me as well to give her up to someone else.
This is how Mani stayed in her foster home, aka forever home. What began as a simple rescue mission ended in a loving bond between a kitten in need and a dedicated foster.
