Sometimes it is truly heartbreaking to see just how cruel some people can be to animals, especially those that do not belong to them.
A few weeks ago, a security camera in the Ohio State University District in Columbus captured a shocking incident. One of the students was caught on video kidnapping his neighbor’s cat, Mindy.
The man heartlessly grabbed the poor cat, put her in a plastic bag, and left – never returning with her.
Anis Mohd Zaini, Mindy’s owner, was devastated when her beloved cat went missing.
She and her boyfriend did everything they could to find her. They tracked the GPS on Mindy’s collar, only to discover it snapped in half and tossed in the trash outside a local Columbus pizza shop.
They searched for days but had no luck. Then, three weeks later, Anis received a message that changed everything.
The message came from Mindy’s microchip company, letting Anis know that her cat had been discovered.
At first, Anis was skeptical. After so many false leads, she didn’t want to get her hopes up.
Still, she decided to call the number included in the message and ask the person to send a photo of the cat they had found – just in case.
To her amazement, the cat in the photo was actually her Mindy, and she couldn’t contain her joy!
It turned out that someone had found Mindy outside their home in Dublin, a small city in Ohio, an incredible 11 miles away from Anis’s home in the Ohio State University District in Columbus.
The kind person took Mindy to the vet, where her microchip led them straight back to Anis.
A concerned Anis admitted she’d probably never know what happened to Mindy during the three weeks she was missing.
Whatever it was, it must have been quite an ordeal because Mindy came back a completely different cat. In an interview, Anis shared:
“She used to be so playful, but she does not even touch her toys – not at all. ”
Anis also noticed other changes. Mindy started sleeping a lot, eating less, and dealing with an upset stomach. On top of that, her blood work came back with abnormal results.
The Columbus police detective handling the case has filed charges against the suspect, including theft, property damage, and two counts of criminal mischief.
Meanwhile, Columbus Humane is conducting its own investigation into the suspect’s actions, looking for motives behind such cruel behavior.
In an interview, Anis’ boyfriend shared his thoughts, firmly believing the suspect’s actions deserve punishment.
He also expressed deep gratitude to everyone who helped in the search for Mindy. He said:
“I just wanted to say thank you to all neighbors, and all Columbus citizens for helping us find Mindy.”
As for sweet Mindy, we can all imagine how happy she must be to finally be back home with her loving owner.
I hope she makes a full recovery soon and returns to her playful, cheerful self. And as for the person who took her, I hope they never have to experience anything like this themselves.
