This Poor Soul Was Abandoned In A Locked Dog Park In Missouri, Then A Car Pulled Over

The night was cold, dark, and thick with fog. Emily Orr was driving home from her mom’s place in Parkville, Missouri, when she thought she heard something.
It was a soft, scared sound coming from the closed dog park nearby. It tugged at her heart in a way she couldn’t ignore.

The road was slippery, and the fog kept getting heavier. Parkville had a reputation for dangerous crashes when the weather was bad, but Emily’s gut told her to keep going.
She needed to know if that sound was real. Was someone, or something, trapped in the park?
When Emily pulled up, she immediately saw a pair of bright, scared eyes staring back at her from inside the fence. There, all alone in the dark, was a dog.

At first, Emily couldn’t believe it, as she shared in an interview:
“I was shocked. I couldn’t believe somebody actually left their dog!”
With her young daughter in the back seat, Emily didn’t want to jump right out. She called the non-emergency police and her mom, hoping they could come help.

Meanwhile, she drove slowly around the park, trying to spot any sign of the dog’s family, but no one came.
The dog stayed close to the fence, running alongside Emily’s car, whimpering and crying, as Emily shared:
“The dog ran along the fence of the dog park following my car, and when I stopped and rolled down my window, she was crying [and] whining. It felt like she was definitely as scared of the park at night as I was and wanted help.”

When Emily’s mom and the police arrived, the dog’s whole body wagged with joy. She rushed right to them, excited and trusting.
She jumped happily into Emily’s mom’s car and couldn’t get enough of the treats brought for her. Emily’s mom took the dog home that night, naming her Emilia.
But the poor pup was so nervous she barked and chewed on things all night. To help her calm down, Emily’s mom bought a kennel. That turned out to be a game changer.

Emilia settled right in, showing she was used to being inside and cared for. She even put herself to bed in the kennel like she had done before.
But despite her quick adjustment, the pup wasn’t in good shape. She was way too skinny for a dog her size. She desperately needed good food, warmth, and love.
Thankfully, that’s exactly what she found. Slowly but surely, Emilia began to bloom, revealing the bright, happy dog she truly was inside.

Then came a moment that showed just how special Emilia truly was. One night, Emily’s mom got really sick and she was in terrible pain on the floor.
Through it all, Emilia stayed right there, lying beside her, as Emily shared:
“Prior to my mom’s surgery, while she [lay] on the floor in excruciating abdominal pain, Emilia laid by my mom’s side and gently rested her head on my mom’s stomach.”

Sadly, Emily’s mom couldn’t keep Emilia forever. But they promised to find her the perfect home, one where she’d be loved for the rest of her life.
With help from Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter, they found her a foster family who adores her and gives her the care she needs.
Emilia is still waiting for her forever home, but she’s happy and safe. Hopefully, that family is out there, ready to give this brave girl the love she deserves.
