After Years Of Struggling To Survive, This Frail Senior Cat Finds Hope At Milwaukee Shelter
Recently, an animal shelter in Milwaukee welcomed another furry soul, though they had no idea just how special she was.
It all began when a frail senior cat, covered in matted fur, was found struggling to survive on the streets. Thankfully, she was brought to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission.
The poor cat was in horrible shape, but all she needed was a touch of love to show her rescuers just how special she truly was…
The cat weighed only 3.2 pounds and was severely dehydrated. Her condition was so bad that she could barely hold her head up.
However, what amazed her rescuers was her unbreakable spirit. She was determined to live, preparing many surprises for them along the way.
Thanks to the kind-hearted people who saved her, the cat underwent a thorough examination, received necessary treatments, and, sooner than expected, she began to transform.
During her time at the shelter, the cat continued eating regularly, and after just five days, she had gained half a pound.
Though she was estimated to be 15-17 years old, the cat showed an incredible will to live, ready to spend her golden years the way she truly deserved.
Slowly but surely, she started revealing her true personality, transforming into a lovely and affectionate feline.
The cat was recovering well from the harsh past she had endured, but her rescuers knew she needed more specialized care.
So, they reached out to Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue in Milwaukee, who, fortunately, didn’t hesitate to accept her.
The staff at Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue welcomed the senior cat with open arms, and lovingly named her Grandma Betty.
Once again, the staff arranged a thorough examination for Betty and even gave her a full makeover.
One dedicated volunteer spent over an hour carefully shaving Betty’s matted fur. After the makeover, Betty was unrecognizable. The staff shared in an interview:
“Grandma Betty got a new hairdo. Though she wasn’t a huge fan of the trim, we can tell that she feels so much better and is even starting to groom herself.”
After her makeover, Grandma Betty continued charming everyone she met and recovering from her difficult past. One of her caretakers said:
“She is the biggest love we’ve ever met. All she wants is to snuggle 24/7.”
After four weeks of specialized care, Grandma Betty reached 5 pounds, which was a huge improvement.
She had a few dental issues, but that didn’t stop her from enjoying every meal she was given. The caretakers added:
“We found out that she loves what we’re calling ‘porridge,’ blended kitten wet food and formula. She laps it up like no one’s business.”
As time passed, Grandma Betty continued to improve and thrive. The caretakers shared:
“We are so proud of this girl for working so hard to get better. Despite her age, she still jumps on counters, loves to snuggle, and is the purriest girl you’ll meet.”
The only thing left was for her to find her forever home – the one where she would spend her golden years in the best way possible.
Fortunately, she didn’t have to wait long for her dream to come true. Nearly two months after her rescue, Grandma Betty captured the heart of a loving woman named Kat. Her caretakers shared:
“We couldn’t be more excited to share that Betty is officially in a foster-to-adopt home.”
After years of struggling to survive on the streets, Grandma Betty finally got a new chance at life, and she’s overjoyed. You see, it’s never too late to live your dreams!
