Oregon Woman Picks Up Her Dog From Daycare But One Look Sends Her Into Panic

Most days, picking up your dog from daycare is the easiest part of the routine. You walk in, exchange a few laughs with the staff, and out comes your pup, tail wagging like you’ve been gone for weeks instead of hours.
That’s exactly how life usually went for Reddit user Katybugfoster and her black Lab, Angus. Same schedule, same routine, same happy reunion.
But one day, the routine didn’t feel so routine. She showed up at daycare and everything seemed perfectly normal: the staff called Angus, and a smiling black Lab bounded out to greet her.
What she didn’t realize was that this pick-up would be anything but ordinary.

Once at home, though, something felt… different.
Instead of sprinting to the door or collapsing into his favorite spot like he usually did, this dog wandered around the house, nose to the ground, investigating every corner like he had never been there before.
At first, she brushed it off. Maybe he was just extra wound up from a busy day. But the sniffing didn’t stop, as she shared in an interview:
“Angus usually just runs to the door. I figured maybe Angus had a really exciting day and was extra energetic, but the sniffing continued inside the house as well.”
It wasn’t playful curiosity; it was intense, the way a dog explores a brand-new place.

And that’s when a thought popped into her head: Wait… is this even Angus?
The doubt crept in quickly. Was she just imagining things? Dogs can be weird sometimes. Still, her gut told her something wasn’t right.
So, she went for the one detail only she would know: Angus had a tiny chipped tooth. She checked this pup’s mouth. No chip.
Her heart dropped. This wasn’t Angus.
She had driven home with an impostor. A very polite, well-behaved impostor, but still, not her dog.

She hurried the mystery Lab into her car and headed back to daycare. When she walked in with the wrong dog, the staff was stunned and immediately apologetic.
Somehow, two nearly identical black Labs had been mixed up, and the other one had even been sent home wearing Angus’s collar.
The impostor’s real name? Billy. His dad was already waiting, just as confused by the whole thing.
Thankfully, both dogs were safe, and Billy had been the perfect little houseguest.

As for Angus, when he finally got home, he seemed more than a little annoyed, as his mom shared:
“Angus seemed a little miffed that I picked him up so late, even though I wasn’t actually late. I was very relieved to have him back, and of course, now I look at him and think, ‘How could I have ever thought that other dog was mine?’”
What started as a simple daycare pickup turned into a story the family will laugh about for years.
Angus may have a doppelgänger out there, but at the end of the day, there’s no mistaking the real star of the show once he’s back home where he belongs.
