Abandoned North Carolina Dog Found In Dumpster Hours Before Euthanasia

When you decide to adopt a dog, you are instantly bound to care for that precious soul in every possible way.
Even when they do stuff they’re not supposed to (like peeing in the house, digging holes in the backyard) we’re supposed to train them in the most gentle and humane way possible.
However, what happened recently in Cumberland County, North Carolina proves that not everyone deserves to have a dog.
A heartbroken, emaciated, and sick dog was found ditched in a dumpster. All alone, in a pile of trash, she was put on the euthanasia list.
Immediately, a local rescue group was informed about the poor dog. Cumberland County, NC Animal Services instantly rushed to the scene just hours before the dog was supposed to be euthanized. But what they saw left them completely heartbroken.
The dog was lying on top of a dumpster, surrounded by trash, with the saddest look in her eyes.
They rushed her to the safety of their shelter and started researching how this poor girl ended in a state like this. As they explained in their Facebook post:
“Sadie is RESCUE ONLY because she bit her owner after being provoked. Sadie pottied in the house and she bit her owner after being physically disciplined. After the incident, the owner threw her in the dumpster. She is now in danger of being euthanized. We really want to see this girl find her forever.”
They decided to give her a new name for a fresh new start – former Sadie was now adorably named Sydney.
Due to Sydney’s alleged bite history, Cumberland County Animal Services began reaching out to rescue groups rather than looking for an adopter.
The team posted on Facebook, urgently seeking a rescue to take her in. With her time at the shelter running out and her euthanasia quickly approaching, the post emphasized how crucial it was to find her a new home as soon as possible.
Thankfully, Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue in Chesterfield, South Carolina, stepped up just in time, giving Sydney a chance to leave the shelter and start a new chapter in her life.
“She was on her very last day. She was going to be euthanized, and on top of that, she was battling an upper respiratory infection,” Victoria McGonigal, founder of Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue, shared in an interview.
In addition to her upper respiratory infection, sweet Sydney had to undergo an X-Ray for her leg, but luckily the injury she had was minor.
Once Sydney has fully recovered and is spayed, Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue will begin helping her get ready for a loving forever home.
McGonigal hopes Sydney’s incredible journey will encourage others to remember to “Adopt, don’t shop.”
“She and other rescue animals just want a chance to be cared for and loved,” she adds.
Sydney’s story is a powerful reminder that every animal deserves a second chance. From a dumpster to the care of a loving rescue, she’s proof that hope, compassion, and timely action can transform a life.
With patience, love, and support, Sydney is now on the path to finding a forever home where she will be cherished every single day.
