Colorado Rescue Cat Pumpkin Obsession Is The Cutest Thing You’ll See Today

Colorado Rescue Cat Pumpkin Obsession Is The Cutest Thing You’ll See Today

Sharing is caring!

I often think about the fact that domestic cats as we know them today, descended from wildcats.

Their hunting skills, silent movements, and ability to see at night make them top-notch little hunters.

So, with all of this in mind, when I look at my rescue cat Beans and remember that last year, he was obsessed with toilet paper, and the year before with socks, a sudden realization dawned on me.

No matter how wild and scary their predators are, our little feline companions are goofy, weird fuzzballs.

If you’re wondering why I even thought about all this, well I was inspired by a cat named Dave from Colorado.

Recently his mom Kat Newquist discovered that her ginger cat Dave became weirdly obsessed with a pumpkin. Yes, you read that right – a pumpkin!

Dave is a rescue cat who joined Kat and her family a little while back. He has 2 other furry siblings, his mom Kat and dad Jackson.

When Kat rescued him he was just a newborn kitten, without a mom and a safe place to call home. With Kat, he received all that and more.

But when she rescued him, people were telling her that ginger cats are special and do things in their way. At first, Kat didn’t believe this until she spent some time with Dave. As she said in a video:

“Dave is my first orange cat, and I admittedly thought that the cliches around orange cats were hyperbole. And then I had Dave, and I understand, and, gosh they’re so much fun.”

Dave indeed was a true ginger cat, forgetting all about his predator ancestors and taking in the goofy and weird side completely.

This is when his new obsession began. With the recent harvest season, Kat went to a local farmers market and brought a bunch of pumpkins home.

Orange, yellow, green, weirdly shaped pumpkins – you name it, Kat had it. So when she displayed the pumpkins along the fireplace, she noticed Dave being weird again.

He was sniffing and bumping his head on every pumpkin Kat brought into the house. Eventually, after a full-on inspection, Dave lay down next to one particular pumpkin and hugged it with his body.

At first, Kat thought this was just ‘Dave being Dave’ all weird and funny, however, after a few days she realized Dave meant business.

No matter how Kat rearranged the pumpkins around the house, Dave would find his favorite yellow and green pumpkin and hug it all day long.

It was almost like the pumpkin served him as some sort of emotional support and he couldn’t get enough of it. As Kat also shared:

“He was so obsessed with this gourd. He just always wanted to be close to it. So, he’d be like curled up around it, or next to it, or just face to face with it.”

Kat had no idea what was so special about this particular pumpkin, but she worried about what would happen once the pumpkin went bad and had to be thrown out. Will Dave be heartbroken?

She shared her worries with her followers on Instagram and one kind soul decided to surprise Kat and Dave. This woman found a big pumpkin plushie and sent it as a special gift for Dave.

And guess what – he loved the plushie just as much as the real pumpkin. Cats can be weird sometimes, but I guess that’s just one more reason to love them. As Kat mentioned:

“He’s got his very strange obsession that we don’t understand, but that’s just Dave.”

I absolutely adore it when cats have these sorts of obsessions, it just tells more about their personalities!

Make sure to follow Dave and Kat over on Instagram, so you don’t miss out on any new weird obsession!
