Louisiana Man Closes His Garage Door, Not Realising His Cat Is Napping On Top

Cats never stop surprising us with their peculiar choices. They’re intelligent creatures, yet their antics often leave us shaking our heads in disbelief.
That was exactly the case with Bella, a grey-and-white cat who thought she’d found the perfect spot for an afternoon nap, only for it to turn into a dangerous disaster.
After a sunny day of playing and exploring, Bella decided it was time to rest. But instead of curling up somewhere soft and safe, she chose to nap on top of the open garage door.
It must have seemed like the perfect high perch for a cat, until the door started to close, trapping her in a terrifying situation.
When Bella’s owner left the house and pressed the garage door button, Bella suddenly found herself wedged between the heavy door and the wall. With no one home to hear her cries, she hung helplessly, unable to free herself.
Luckily, Bella’s neighbors spotted her just in time. They immediately contacted the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Deputy Mike Scott responded to the urgent call.
In a Facebook post, Deputy Scott admitted even he was shocked when he arrived:
“A cat had been stuck between the garage door of a residence and the wall. Never in all of my years was I prepared to encounter what I saw upon my arrival.”
The situation was critical, but Deputy Scott wasted no time. Working together with concerned neighbors, he carefully removed the molding around the door frame so they could gently free Bella from her tight spot.
As the rescue unfolded, someone managed to contact Bella’s owner, who rushed home, unaware of the ordeal her cat had been through.
When Bella was finally pulled free, everyone held their breath, was she hurt? Miraculously, despite her terrifying experience, Bella had no injuries at all. She was shaken and understandably frightened, but otherwise healthy.
Bella was lucky. Her curious choice of nap spot could have ended much worse if not for the quick actions of alert neighbors and a determined deputy.
After a checkup and plenty of reassuring cuddles from her family, she was back to her normal self, though maybe a little embarrassed by the whole situation.
But it does raise an interesting question: why did Bella choose to sleep in such a strange place in the first place? The answer lies in feline instinct.
Cats naturally prefer high spots because they feel safer above the ground. In the wild, trees offer protection from predators and provide a good vantage point to watch their surroundings.
Even indoor cats inherit that instinct, often choosing bookshelves, cabinets, or window ledges as their favorite places to nap or observe.
Situations like Bella’s actually happen more often than many people realize. Cats are naturally drawn to explore high, hidden, or unusual spaces, which can sometimes put them in unexpected danger.
From sneaking into appliances to curling up in garages, their curiosity knows no bounds.
That’s why it’s so important for cat parents to stay mindful of where their pets might wander and to double-check potentially risky spots before shutting doors, starting machines, or leaving the house.
A little extra awareness can make all the difference in keeping our feline friends safe.

For Bella, the top of the garage door must have felt like the perfect high perch. She couldn’t have guessed what would happen once the door moved. Hopefully, after this scary ordeal, she’ll think twice before picking such a risky nap spot again.
In the end, Bella’s story turned out to be one of luck, quick thinking, and teamwork. Thanks to caring neighbors and a deputy who wouldn’t give up, this Louisiana cat is safe, sound, and back where she belongs, napping in safer, cozier places.
