Sweet Pittie Girl Turns Gray After 7 Years In Texas Shelter, Then Someone Finally Takes Her Home

You know how some animals just steal your heart without even trying?
Well, that’s exactly what happened when Joshua Kennon first walked through the doors of Haven Animal Care Shelter years ago.
The shelter was full of furry faces, but there was this one sweet, older pittie girl who seemed to have her own little spotlight.
Her name was Terri, and the moment Joshua saw her, it was game over for his heart.

Terri wasn’t shy about making friends either. She bounced right up to Joshue like they’d been best buds forever.
It was the kind of welcome you don’t forget. Joshua shared in an interview:
“She was jumping on me, giving me kisses and being the sweetest. So from day one, I was attached to her.”
Joshua didn’t know her story yet, but he already knew she was special. Later, he learned the part that broke him a little.

Terri had once been a lonely stray, wandering around a cemetery with a belly full of puppies. That was many years ago.
The shelter had taken her in, named her after the cemetery, and cared for her puppies. But Terri never got her own home. By the time Joshua met her, she’d been waiting five long years.
It wasn’t because she wasn’t lovable. Terri was a walking bundle of love.
But being a black pittie, needing to be the only dog, and being older made her easy for people to pass by.

Puppies always got the attention, and Terri just… stayed behind, her muzzle slowly turning gray. Still, she never lost that little spark of hope.
Joshua saw her every day, sitting in her kennel with those kind eyes, hoping someone would finally pick her.
Then, after two years of working there, Joshua got big news: he’d been accepted into vet school at Texas A&M.
It was exciting, but the thought of leaving Terri crushed him. He couldn’t imagine her spending the rest of her life behind those bars.

So he made the choice that changed both of their lives. He adopted her.
After seven long years, Terri was finally going home.
Out of the shelter, Terri bloomed in ways Joshua hadn’t even imagined. She had always been sweet, but now she was unstoppable in her love. Joshua shared:
“If you ever put her in a group of people, she’ll go to someone and demand pets.”
It was like she was making up for all the years she’d missed.

Now, she spends her days going on walks with Joshua, snoozing beside him while he studies, and soaking up all the love she can get.
Joshua swears she’s the perfect “vet school dog,” and you can tell he means it with every bit of his heart.
He hopes her story reminds people that the dogs who’ve been waiting the longest often have the most love to give.
Senior dogs like Terri deserve that second chance, because sometimes, the best ones are the ones who’ve been waiting all along.
