Not long ago, several cat rescue groups in Houston, Texas, were alerted to a large cat colony in desperate need of help.
It was estimated that around 200 abandoned cats were struggling to survive in low-income housing communities. Despite their best efforts, the harsh realities of street life were taking a toll on them.
It was clear that urgent action was needed. That’s when the dedicated rescuers from Fur A Pawsitive Future, Space City Cats, and other local volunteers joined forces to come to their aid.
Among the colony was Miko, a very special feline who needed the rescuers’ help more than most.
Rescued In The Nick Of Time
It only took one look at Miko for rescuers to realize her chances of surviving much longer on her own were very slim.
The poor girl was in rough shape – extremely malnourished and skinny, with dull, patchy fur. Her beautiful green eyes were filled with sadness and a longing for love.
On their official Facebook page, Fur A Pawsitive Future shared:
“The outdoor environment is clearly not good for her. Her fur is missing in places, but she remains a fighter. She is there every day to greet whoever feeds her. She is the sweetest thing.”
On top of everything else, Miko was suffering from a severe case of mange – a skin condition caused by mites that is highly contagious and leads to hair loss, itching, sores, and other symptoms.
In most cases, mange tends to affect the ears the most, and that was definitely true for Miko.
Catching Miko was relatively easy because she was friendly, good-natured, and clearly craved attention.
Once she was safely off the streets, she received treatment for mange.
After several days of warm baths with high-quality cat shampoo and some much-needed medication, her condition cleared up, revealing something that amazed everyone involved in her rescue.
Miko’s True Beauty Unlocked
There’s nothing a little bit of good old TLC can’t fix! In Miko’s case, after days of devoted care and unconditional love, her true beauty finally shone through.
A kitty who had always been sweet and beautiful on the inside now looked just as stunning on the outside. What a happy turn of events!
Thankfully, the wonderful team at Save A Purrfect Cat Rescue, another amazing group based in Houston, Texas, took Miko in.
They continued caring for her, helping her condition improve even more, and transforming her into the most beautiful cat on the block.
