After 888 Days, Missing Cat Reunites With His Owner, But Their Reunion Comes With A Twist

Sharing is caring!

Our feline friends definitely aren’t known for following the rules, and they always seem to find a way to break them.

Whether it’s munching on forbidden houseplants or wandering too far from home, these little furry rascals know just how to keep their humans on edge.

Take Kirby, for example – the mischievous hero of today’s story.

This silly kitty from West Milford, New Jersey, decided to take a long stroll one day and ended up going missing for nearly three years.

But don’t worry, his story does come with a happy ending! Keep reading to find out what happened to Kirby, where he wandered off to, and how his incredible journey came to an end!

888 Days Of – What, Kirby?

When Kirby went missing almost three years ago, Maureen’s heart shattered into a million pieces.

This devoted owner searched day after day, never giving up hope of bringing her beloved black kitty home.

The team at the Lost West Milford Pets took note of Maureen’s dedication, sharing her story on their Facebook page:

“Maureen’s unwavering love for Kirby never faltered. Every day, she searched tirelessly, checking on every found black cat and experiencing the agony of worry when hearing about others who had met unfortunate fates. The hope of seeing her furry friend again never left her heart.”

Just when she was beginning to lose hope, Maureen received the call she’d been waiting for.

The West Milford Animal Shelter Society told her that her precious Kirby had finally been found!

Two kind-hearted souls spotted Kirby wandering the streets and decided to rescue him from the harshness of life outside, bringing him to the shelter for a check-up.

Thanks to his microchip, the shelter was able to trace his history and reunite him with the owner who never stopped believing.

How unbelievable! It turns out this mischievous little guy spent 888 days wandering just a couple of blocks away from his concerned owner, right in the heart of the neighborhood.

When Maureen heard the incredible news, she rushed straight to the shelter to reunite with her beloved boy, who, to her relief, was in great health.

However, just when it seemed like everything was falling perfectly into place, something extraordinary happened that left everyone scratching their heads…

The Plot Twist Of The Century

As Maureen was catching up with Kirby, a woman named Sonia walked into the West Milford Animal Shelter Society, making a request that would change everything.

Sonia, who had found Kirby and brought him to the shelter, couldn’t stop thinking about the bond she’d formed with him over the days she spent trying to catch him.

So, she wondered if she could adopt him.

At first, Maureen was taken aback by the request but, after some thought, saw the sense in it.

In the 888 days since Kirby’s disappearance, a lot had changed in Maureen’s life, and she had become the proud mom of two dogs and two cats.

So, as much as she loved her little guy, the idea of adding another cat to the mix was quite a challenge.

After a heartfelt conversation, both women agreed that Kirby seemed to have chosen Sonia and that he would go home with her.

The Lost West Milford Pets shared this update, saying:

“They discussed the situation with the owner, and both parties feel that Kirby is happier in their home, and appears to have chosen them. Kirby clearly chose them, and as they say, the cat distribution system was at work! Maureen is happy, knowing her boy is alive and well, and has found a place he is happy. As much as she loves him, she values his happiness.”

In the end, Maureen and Sonia exchanged numbers, agreeing to stay in touch so Maureen could occasionally visit her beloved Kirby.

It might not have been the reunion they’d expected, but it was a happy one, and in the end, that’s what really mattered.

The Importance Of Microchipping

Kirby’s story is a beautiful reminder of the power of love, and kindness, but also the life-changing impact of microchipping.

Without that tiny microchip, Maureen would have likely never seen her sweet Kirby again.

Richard Adamonis, a volunteer at the West Milford Animal Shelter Society, spoke about this crucial issue in an interview, saying:

“This heartwarming reunion serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of microchipping our pets. It’s more than just a safety measure; it’s a lifeline that connects lost animals with their families, ensuring they never have to face the uncertainties of the world alone.”

Adamonis also encouraged pet owners around the world, urging them to take that extra step for their pets’ safety:

“Please commit to microchip your pets, you are their whole world, and they are counting on you.”

I hope Kirby’s story reminded us all of how small actions can make a world of difference.

If you haven’t yet microchipped your pets, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. It’s a simple step that could one day save their lives.

It’s a small step you can take for your furry friends, but one that can end up saving their lives!
