Sara Sharp, the founder of the Community Cat Club in South Jersey, always has her hands full. Every day, she and her team care for numerous abandoned cats and kittens.
But, one day, she received an urgent call from a person who had found two tiny kittens all alone.
The kittens were barely clinging to life, and Sara knew she had to act quickly. When she arrived at the location, she discovered the two tiny kittens huddled together in critical condition.
The poor babies were literally living their final moments. However, Sara was determined to save them and to fight for their lives
After investigating, Sara learned that the kittens’ mother was feral and unable to care for them.
The mother had given birth to a litter of four kittens, but tragically, two didn’t survive. The remaining two were fighting hard to stay alive.
Luckily, Sara arrived just in time. She welcomed the furry babies with open arms and immediately started caring for them, hoping they could pull through. She shared in an interview:
“They were half the size they should have been and had to be tube-fed for the first two days.”
Thanks to her experience, Sara quickly stabilized the kittens, and they began to show signs of recovery sooner than expected.
As they grew bigger and stronger, their unique personalities started to emerge. Within just two weeks, the kittens transformed into energetic, playful furballs.
However, they were still too young to regulate their body temperatures and had to spend time in an incubator, receiving round-the-clock care.
Once they outgrew the incubator, they were ready to explore their surroundings.
Sara affectionately named them Kraut and Pierogi, signifying a fresh start in life. The kittens continued to be bottle-fed and relished the attention they received. Sara explained:
“They were still on the smaller side since they were so malnourished during their first two weeks of life, so I didn’t want to rush them into anything.”
Thankfully, both kittens showed remarkable improvement with each passing day.
They showed an incredible fighting spirit, supporting each other during their journey to recover. Sara added:
“They needed a lot of care, but they luckily pulled through.”
Once they had fully recovered, Kraut and Pierogi were ready for the next chapter of their journey: finding a forever home.
Sara and her team set out on a mission to match them with the perfect family.
Soon, a cat-loving woman discovered Kraut and Pierogi’s story and immediately fell in love with them.
After discussing with her husband, the couple decided to adopt both kittens. The new owner shared:
“I have a 17-year-old cat, Ace. I told my husband that when it’s his time to go to heaven, I’m going to get a brother and sister cat. I told my husband I think it might be meant to be, and even though he was hesitant, he ended up agreeing.”
The couple welcomed the kittens into their home, and their lives were filled with joy.
Initially, they worried about Ace’s reaction, but to their surprise, things turned out better than expected. The owner shared:
“Now, Ace sleeps next to them on the couch and in my bed. I think they brought him even more happiness. They are such sweet little kittens and love each other so much. Kraut and my dog Darla play all the time, and Pierogi is obsessed with food. She always wants to eat. They both get so excited when I come home and run right up to me. They are a perfect match for our family and fit right in.”
Kraut and Pierogi have come a long way. From two tiny kittens in critical condition living their final moments, they went to two happy felines thriving in their forever home.
In the end, it was all thanks to their strong spirits and the kind-hearted people who never gave up on them.
