Sometimes, when you hear about animal rescues, they sound wild, but this one takes the cake.
Imagine crawling through a filthy, dark sewer pipe just to save a tiny kitten stuck underground. That’s exactly what one woman did for a little furball in need. She wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty – literally.
This story is one of true grit and heart, with a rescue so daring it’ll leave you amazed.

It all started in Delray Beach, Florida, where a kitten got trapped in a sewer pipe, meowing for help. When Lindsey Bembli heard his cries, she knew something had to be done.
The Delray Beach Fire Department arrived first, but they quickly realized they couldn’t get the kitten out. He retreated even further into the pipe, and the firefighters figured he might eventually find his way out on his own.
But Lindsey couldn’t just let it go. For days, she kept leaving food out, hoping the kitten would come to the surface, but he didn’t.

On the third day, she heard him crying again. She couldn’t just stand by while he was trapped, so she made up her mind: she would do whatever it took to get him out.
Lindsey tried everything she could for six days, but the kitten remained out of reach.
Realizing she couldn’t do this alone, she called in the real experts: Operation Liberation, with Liz Jones, the founder, leading the charge.

Liz immediately took on the challenge. She wasn’t afraid to dive headfirst into the messiest, most uncomfortable situation you could imagine – crawling 300 feet through a narrow, disgusting sewage pipe.
She fought her way through roaches, spiders, and all sorts of creepy things as she crawled deeper into the dark, filthy pipe, but she kept moving forward.
The further she went, the worse it got. But she couldn’t stop. She knew she had to save this little one.

Finally, Liz spotted him. He was huddled in a corner, soaked and absolutely terrified. With careful hands, she reached out, gently scooping the tiny kitten up into her arms.
He was fragile and trembling, but he was alive, and that was all that mattered.
With the kitten safely cradled in her arms, Liz crawled back through the pipe. It was just as filthy and difficult as before, but this time, every inch felt like a victory.

After what seemed like an impossible journey, Liz was out the pipe at last, kitten in tow. They had made it.
Lindsey was so happy to see the little one safe and sound, sharing in an interview:
“I didn’t want him to die down there. This is what rescue is, it’s not out of the ordinary. It’s the kind of thing that we do on a regular basis.”

They rushed the little one to the Pet Emergency Referral Center, where he was cleaned up and began his recovery.
It turned out this little furball was more than just cute – he had a funny side too. He tried to make his new home feel more like the old one, in the funniest way possible, as Lindsey shared:
“When your new house is too clean so you try to make it more like your old house, but your old house was the sewer.”
The rescuers organized a fundraiser to help cover the kitten’s care and support Liz’s work saving street cats in South Florida. Lindsey shared:
“Liz is the most badass human I have ever met. She is currently building out her dream shelter facility in Fort Lauderdale and every dollar raised after his bill is covered would go towards saving other street cats right here in South Florida.”

The kitten was given the perfect name: Donatello – after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, thanks to his time spent in the sewers.
Now, little Donatello was safe, recovering in Lindsey’s home and getting all the love and care he could ever need, far away from the muck and mess.
This rescue may have been messy, but the outcome was beyond worth it!
